Paul Harris Fellow Club

Paul Harris Fellow Club

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who have made outstanding contributions to furthering the Rotary ideals of Service, those who have contributions made in their name, or a contribution of at least $1,000 to The Rotary International Foundation.

The Paul Harris Fellow was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships. Notable figures have been named as Paul Harris Fellows including U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Jimmy Carter; former US Secretary of State James Baker III, Mother Teresa, Pearl Bailey, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Bill and Melinda Gates, Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey, Donald J. Trump, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, Apollo Astronaut Neil Armstrong, UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar, and discoverer and developer of the first successful polio vaccine, Dr. Jonas Salk.

In the Rotary fiscal year 2011-2012 the Rotary Club of Houston became the newest Rotary Club in the world to be a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club in which all dues-paying members are Paul Harris Fellows. This is a one-time recognition. The Rotary Club of Houston continues to be one of the only large clubs (over 160 members) in the country to have that distinction
