Distinguished Citizen Award Committee

The Distinguished Citizen Award (DCA) Committee plans and promotes the annual Rotary Distinguished Citizen Award (DCA) dinner honoring an outstanding Houstonian that is selected by the DCA Selection Committee. It is the highest honor we can bestow on an individual who embodies the values of Rotary International.

Many great Houstonians have been honored with this prestigious award including President George H.W. Bush, Bob McNair, James A. Baker III, George P. Mitchell, Ima Hogg, Gus S. Wortham, George R. Brown, Oveta Culp Hobby, Ben Love, Gordon Cain, Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, and Dr. Denton Cooley. These Values incorporate honor, integrity, truthfulness, and “Service Above Self”. The Distinguished Citizen Award proceeds go directly into the Rotary Club of Houston Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit foundation to be used for the Rotary Club of Houston community service programs throughout Houston and the world.

These programs include initiatives to combat hunger, provide education and job training; veteran’s programs providing housing, medical support and transitional services to our hometown heroes; a fresh start for ex-offenders; promote peace, improve health, sanitation and eradicate disease under our motto of “Service Above Self.” As Rotarians we take pride in our humanitarian work without regard race, color, religion, creed, sex, national origin, ancestry or age.
